futariniousama), Dave Strider (
striderismo), Chitose Miyuki (
followmi), Arthur Pendragon (
loveofcamelot)
Character
Name: Quistis Trepe
Series: Final Fantasy VIII
Timeline: Post-game by a few months — she'll be retaining her memories from her last time at Route.
Canon Resource Links: Wiki!
Personality: Quistis is a very rational and level person. Despite being emotionally motivated — many of her actions, especially early in the game, stem from her feelings toward her friends and students — she keeps her cool well, even under pressure. In the first major embarkment of the game, we see her gun down a giant mechanical spider that's pursuing her panicked students.
She has high ambitions and is driven, goal-oriented, intelligent and eager to please. She's only eighteen, but she was a mercenary by fifteen, and an instructor at the academy where she trained by seventeen — the youngest on record. Later, she lost her license as an instructor due to 'lack of leadership qualities.' It forced her to take a step back and reevaluate herself and her talents, and to acknowledge her faults. While she's adept at teaching, she falls short in decisiveness and authoritative command, and therefore isn't well-suited to a position as an instructor at Garden, where she's expected to lead missions.
She walks a balance between friendly and somewhat self-conscious; she's quite sociable, but a bit reluctant to reach out. When approached, however, she proves to be amiable and fairly easygoing, ready to listen and eager to talk. She's had difficulty connecting with people her own age, since her position as their instructor has put something of a barrier between them. On the other hand, being so much younger than most of her fellow instructors and staff members, she's had trouble connecting with them, as well. This is something that she's actively trying to overcome.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
✔ Strategy. She's a sharp tactical thinker; some of this is natural and some was learned. She's excellent at games of strategy, and it gives her an advantage in battle.
✔ Training. She's a professional mercenary; her experience brings with it courage, nerves of steel, physical prowess and the ability to wield a whip with deadly accuracy.
✔ Responsibility. She takes it in stride; she's accustomed to being accountable not only for herself, but for her students, and she's mature enough to handle it.
✘ Leadership skills. She lost her instructor's license over this; she lacks the decisiveness and natural authority needed to be a true leader.
✘ Wants to be liked. She'll often go against her better judgement in order to avoid social conflict, and sometimes tries too hard to please or impress.
✘ Emotionally driven. Her emotions can easily get the better of her, and have in the past interfered with her judgement and her assigned mission.

First Person Sample: [ The video clicks on to an expression of wonder. Some might recognize Quistis from her time here before — she hasn't been gone long enough to look much older, either. ]
I'm... back, I guess.
[ The next pause is long, but she eventually smiles. ]
How long has it been? I was back in my world for almost six months. This place was just starting to feel like a long dream when I woke up here again.
[ She turns the 'Gear on a shining Skarmory, crowded close behind her. ]
King was in his ball when I woke up, but he's the only one. He's level thirty, strangely enough. The other balls were empty; the bag is just like it was the first time I arrived. No badges, either....
... Is anyone I knew still here? Rinoa, Leon, Athrun, Asuka... ?
Third Person Sample: It was raining, but Quistis didn't feel sleepy, like she usually did in the rain. Chilly as it was, she felt energized, excited. When she was here, she'd missed home, but once she went home, she'd missed all the adventures, the chaos, the impossible mix of people and universes here in Johto.
She tucked the Pokéballs back into their pocket. She wished she had her old team back, but at the same time, a clean slate wasn't bad. No question, though, she was relieved that King was with her again. He'd been a trusted companion during her first stay, and he was a comforting familiarity now. (Not to mention how much easier it would be to fight through to Cherrygrove with a level thirty Pokémon — though how he'd lost twenty-five levels was beyond her.)
Over her shoulder, the shine of steel caught her eye, and she turned to take the bag of trail mix that King was offering her. Once it was in her hand, he eyed it mournfully.
"Oh, is that a hint?" She laughed and emptied the bag on the ground without a second thought. She still remembered where to find berries and nuts to eat.
While he ate eagerly, she finished packing her bag back up. The ride to the next town wasn't going to be a pleasant one in this weather, but she'd been here through worse. It was actually warmer now than it was when she arrived the first time, brand new and confused. The blizzards she'd waded through to make it to Violet were starting to feel like they were yesterday; the music was bringing the memories back fresh.
Bag over her shoulder, she leapt astride King's back, hooking her legs over his wings, and leaned forward to grab around his neck. He needed no encouragement to spring into a run. The rain and wind were freezing cold at this speed, but the sooner she got to Cherrygrove, the better.
